This simple finger painting practice helps shift you from overthinking to sensing.
If you’re stuck in a creative rut or stuck in your head this workshop is for you. Break free from caring about what it looks and enjoy what it feels like painting with your finger(s). Embody your childlike freedom of exploration and let yourself get a little messy. Adults need to be reminded how to be in our bodies, kids know no other way.
Starting with a few dollops of paint and one finger we notice temperature, texture, viscosity, pressure, color and breath. We’ll explore different prompts and adding in other digits while staying safely contained by our canvas and capacity.
Using gentle movement and sound vibrations to help us shift from thinking to feeling we’ll tune into and cultivate our interoception, or what’s happening inside our body. After 30 minutes of grounding through movement and sound we’ll move to expression of our inner state.
Moving with and through sensations we allow whatever comes out on the paper to flow through us not be directed by us. This isn’t about the final product as you will be invited to work with quantity over quality in your painting practice. Your work here is simply a visual representation of your feelings and awareness of what happens when you let creating come from being present in your body at any given moment.
